Monitored Home Security: Dispatch, Not Just a Notification

An operator receives the alarm within seconds, works a defined escalation, and dispatches police or fire whether you are reachable or not. That is the whole difference between this and a siren that notifies your phone.

Who This Suits

Sensor count follows from openings and interior paths, not square footage. Work outward from the exterior doors and most homes land within one or two devices of the right answer.

A 3-bed with two exterior doors

Monitored Essential. Two entry contacts, one spare for a garage-to-house door, one motion detector on the hallway connecting them, and the panel. Four sensors covers it, and adding a monitored smoke detector is the single highest-value addition.

A 4-bed with a patio slider and side door

Monitored Complete. Six entry contacts across doors and ground-floor opening windows, two motion detectors for two circulation routes, and a glass-break detector for the slider — a large fixed pane that a contact sensor does nothing about because the frame never moves.

A house that is empty midweek

Monitored Complete, for video verification and monitored smoke. Verified alarms are prioritised by most police departments and generally avoid a false-alarm charge, and a monitored smoke detector reaches the centre when nobody is home — which a hardware-store alarm cannot do.

Equipment and Specification Detail

Every device, what it does, and where it goes. National sites list device names; placement and specification are what actually decide whether a system covers your house.

A security equipment set laid out: a control panel, three door contact sensors, a corner motion detector and two key fobs.

What happens on an alarm

An alarm signals the monitoring centre within seconds. An operator calls the primary contact first, then the secondary contact. If neither answers, or the duress code is given, the operator dispatches local police or fire. Verbal verification over the panel's two-way speaker is attempted before dispatch where the panel supports it.

Monitored Essential — every device

  • Touchscreen panel

    1 unit

Mounted in the main entry hallway. Arms and disarms the system, runs the two-way voice link to the monitoring centre, and holds the cellular radio.

7-inch capacitive display, 24-hour internal battery, LTE-M radio plus broadband path

  • Entry sensor

    3 units

Two-piece magnetic contacts on exterior doors. Triggers the moment the contact separates, before anyone is inside.

Gap tolerance up to 0.75 in, 3-5 year cell battery, tamper-reporting

  • Motion detector

    1 unit

Corner-mounted in the main living space, covering the path between the entry doors. Pet-immune below 40 lb so a dog does not trip it.

35 ft range, 90-degree field, pet immunity to 40 lb

  • Key fob

    2 units

Arms, disarms and sends a panic signal from outside the house. One per adult in the household.

Four-button, 100 ft range from the panel

  • Yard sign and window decals

    1 unit

Placed at the street-facing approach and on ground-floor windows. The visible deterrent does measurable work before the system ever triggers.

What happens on an alarm

Identical escalation to the Essential package, with video verification added: on a triggered alarm the operator reviews the clip from the nearest camera before dispatch. Verified alarms are prioritised by most police departments, which shortens response time and reduces false-alarm charges.

Monitored Complete — every device

  • Touchscreen panel

    1 unit

Mounted in the main entry hallway. Arms and disarms, runs two-way voice, and holds the cellular radio.

7-inch capacitive display, 24-hour internal battery, LTE-M radio plus broadband path

  • Entry sensor

    6 units

Magnetic contacts on every exterior door and on ground-floor windows that open.

Gap tolerance up to 0.75 in, 3-5 year cell battery, tamper-reporting

  • Motion detector

    2 units

One covering the main living space, one covering the upstairs landing or rear hallway.

35 ft range, 90-degree field, pet immunity to 40 lb

  • Glass-break detector

    1 unit

Acoustic detector for a room with large fixed panes where a contact sensor would do nothing — a patio slider or a bay window.

25 ft radius, dual-stage acoustic signature matching

  • Indoor camera

    1 unit

Covers the main approach inside the house and supplies the clip used for video verification.

1080p, 130-degree field of view, infrared night vision to 25 ft, two-way audio

  • Video doorbell

    1 unit

Replaces the existing doorbell at the front door. Records on motion and on press, and is the device most households actually use daily.

1536p head-to-toe 3:4 aspect, 180-degree vertical field, infrared night vision

  • Smoke and heat detector

    1 unit

Monitored smoke detection in the main hallway. Unlike a hardware-store alarm, this one reaches the monitoring centre when nobody is home.

Photoelectric plus fixed-temperature heat sensor, 10-year sealed battery

  • Key fob

    2 units

Arms, disarms and sends a panic signal from outside the house.

Four-button, 100 ft range from the panel

  • Yard sign and window decals

    1 unit

    Street-facing approach and ground-floor windows.

Contract and Commitment

Term. 36 months of monitoring on both packages. This is the longest commitment on the site and the one worth thinking hardest about — if you are renting or expect to move within three years, the equipment-only package exists for exactly that reason.

Early termination. A percentage of the remaining monitoring months, falling each month you stay. What ends is the monitoring service and the dispatch capability with it.

Equipment ownership. Owned outright from day one, on both packages. Nothing is returned if you cancel and the hardware stays on your walls. The term covers the monitoring service, not the equipment — which is why cancelling leaves you with a working local alarm and no dispatch.

Permits. Many municipalities require an annual alarm permit for any system capable of causing a police dispatch, and an unpermitted dispatch usually carries a charge. We tell you whether yours does on the call.

Autopay. Available and not required.

Why availability and terms are address-specific

What provisions at your address depends on the build that reaches your street and the tiers available on it, neither of which is the same two streets over. That is why this page publishes the full specification and confirms the commercial terms on the call rather than printing a figure that would be wrong for most readers.

Common Questions

What does the monitoring centre do that an app notification does not?

It acts when you cannot. An app notification requires you to be awake, reachable and willing to interpret it. An operator receives the signal regardless, works a defined escalation, and dispatches police or fire without needing you at all. That is the entire difference, and it is the reason monitoring exists.

How does video verification change the police response?

Most police departments prioritise verified alarms over unverified ones, because the large majority of unverified residential alarms are false. When an operator can see a person in the clip, the dispatch is treated as a confirmed intrusion. It also means most jurisdictions will not levy a false-alarm charge on it.

What is the cellular path and why is it primary?

The panel carries an LTE-M radio and signals the monitoring centre over the mobile network, with broadband as the fallback. That ordering is deliberate: cutting the broadband line at the outside of a house is trivially easy, and a system that depended on it would be defeated before it ever reported.

What happens during a power cut?

The panel runs on its internal battery for 24 hours, stays armed, and continues reporting over cellular. Wireless sensors run on their own cells and are unaffected. A power cut is one of the few failure modes a monitored system genuinely handles well.

Can I cancel monitoring before the term ends?

Yes. The early termination charge is a percentage of the remaining monitoring months, so it falls each month you stay. The equipment is yours regardless and nothing is returned — what ends is the monitoring service and the dispatch capability with it.
