Internet Installation: What Actually Happens
Most install-day problems are decided before the technician arrives — by where the drop enters, where the power outlet is, and who has permission to drill. Here is the whole sequence.
Fibrix Solutions Inc. is an independent authorized reseller of internet and home security service. We are not the service provider: service, equipment, billing and account help come from the provider you choose. We sell new service only and cannot access existing accounts or bills. Availability and terms are confirmed for your exact address before you order. Read the full disclosures.

Before the appointment: three things to settle
Decide where the gateway will live, confirm there is a mains outlet within reach of it, and establish who is allowed to authorise a wall penetration. In an owned house that is you. In a rented one or an apartment building it is the landlord or the building manager, and getting that permission after the technician has arrived is how appointments get abandoned.
- Gateway location: reasonably central for Wi-Fi, near where the line enters, with mains power
- Clear physical access to that wall and to the exterior wall where the line enters
- Written permission for wall penetrations if you do not own the property
- Someone over 18 present for the whole window
- Pets secured away from the work area
A fiber install, step by step
The technician confirms the drop reaches the property, or builds it — aerially from a pole, or through existing underground conduit. Where neither exists, a trench is required and that is a separate visit. The drop is terminated at an exterior box, then run through the wall to an optical network terminal mounted inside. The gateway connects to that. The line is then tested end to end, the service is provisioned, and Wi-Fi is configured. Two to four hours in a straightforward case.
A non-fiber install, step by step
Considerably simpler where the address is pre-wired. The technician locates an active coaxial outlet, connects the gateway, checks signal levels at the outlet, and activates the service. Where signal levels are out of spec the fault is usually a degraded splitter or a corroded exterior connection, and correcting it is what turns a 45-minute visit into a two-hour one. Self install is the same sequence without the signal-level check, which is why it works well at a known-good address and poorly at an unknown one.
What delays an appointment
In order of frequency: nobody over 18 present; no permission to drill; no accessible mains outlet at the chosen gateway location; a locked communications room in an apartment building; an underground conduit found to be collapsed; and a drop that turns out not to reach the property at all despite the address showing as serviceable. The last one is genuinely a systems limitation rather than an excuse, and it is why the technician confirms on site.
After the technician leaves
Run a wired speed test at the gateway before anyone leaves, not a Wi-Fi one — a Wi-Fi test measures your walls, not your line. Then walk the house and check coverage in the rooms that matter. If a far bedroom is weak, that is a mesh node conversation, and it is far easier to have while the install is fresh than three weeks later.
Where This Leads
The specification pages below carry the full figures behind everything above — speeds, upload, latency, device lists, sensor counts and contract mechanics.
Availability and terms depend on the address, so both are confirmed on the call. The arithmetic above gets you to the right tier or the right device count; the call confirms what actually provisions where you live.
Common Questions
Do I need to be home for the whole window?
Yes, and someone over 18 must be present for the entire appointment, not just to let the technician in. Work involving wall penetrations and equipment placement requires decisions from the property's occupant throughout.
Can the gateway go anywhere I want?
Within reason. It needs mains power and it needs to be near where the line terminates. The most central location for Wi-Fi is often not the location the line reaches, and resolving that tension — a longer interior run, or a mesh node — is worth discussing on site rather than accepting the first suggestion.
What if the technician cannot complete the install?
It is rebooked, usually with additional work scheduled first — a trench, a conduit repair, or building permission. Nothing is charged for the incomplete visit, and we handle the rebooking rather than leaving you to chase it.
How long until the service actually works?
It is provisioned and live before the technician leaves. If it is not working when they leave, it is not finished, and that is the standard to hold the appointment to.
Talk It Through for Your Own Home
The general arithmetic gets you close. The specifics — your floor plan, your address, what has actually been built on your street — are a five-minute conversation.
